Wayward Daughters Thunderclap

Hey guys!

Happy Wednesday!!

Today I’ve been super duper busy, so this is a quick blog post to inform you guys of something really super awesome happening in America tonight. A new Supernatural episode! Now this isn’t just your average SPN episode, no, this is a special episode with Kathryn Newton, Kim Rhodes, and Katherine Ramdeen, 3/4 Wayward Daughters clan.

Now I could go on and say some of the spoilers that have been released, like episode descriptions and stuff, but I really don’t want to spoil ANY part of it for you guys. Instead I want to draw your attention towards the Thunderclap that has been set up by the wonderful Riley of @WaywardAcademy.

What is Wayward Daughters?

A fandom created spin-off idea that centralises around Jody, Claire, Alex, and Donna!

What is Thunderclap?

From what I can tell it’s something that sends out a specific tweet for you at a specific time. Similar to a flashmob really, but on twitter. So far, at the time of writing this, it is 3/4 of the way to reaching 1,000,000 people when the tweets are published. Which is INCREDIBLE.

Annnd as you can tell from my tweets today, and from previous mentions, I am so so so passionate about the idea of having a Wayward Daughters sequel you have no idea. But I’ll go into more detail about that later on in a vlog.

So join the Thunderclap now whilst you still can, and be part of this awesome thing that’s happening within the fandom! –  https://www.thunderclap.it/en/projects/37231

And whilst you’re at it you should give WaywardAcademy a follow on twitter 🙂

Hope everyone in the US enjoys the episode tonight 😀

Guest Post | Rhonda | SPN Family

Hi all. I’m Rhonda, *waves* and I am so excited to be writing here on Sophie’s blog! The way Sophie and I ‘met’ was quite fortuitious actually, and it wasn’t until we got to chatting that we realized we have many things in common. And so we decided to guest post on one another’s blogs. You can read her post over at rhondamhartman.blogspot.com because I’m sure you’re going to want to read it!  One of those things that we have in common is that we are both a part of the SPN Family.

Since you’re following Sophie’s blog I’ll assume you already know what the SPN Family is, but let me tell you tell you a little more about how important it is and how life changing it really can be; the span it has, and the impact on lives it can have. I know it’s “just a tv show” but it can really be more than that.

It can be a family.

I’m new to the family. I have had Supernatural on my Netflix queue for a very long time, but I had never gotten around to watching it. I was a fan of Jared Padalecki in Gilmore Girls, so I was semi reluctant to watch him in another show so soon. Particularly when he wouldn’t be playing the Dean character. It was silly on my part, but Americans are prone to frivolity. 😉

This past year, during Spring Break, (I’m a school teacher) I finally started watching it. I think I actually watched the first three seasons in one week. I was completely hooked. I began reading the fanfics, looking up the actors, the writers, connecting with other fans, learning of gishwhes, participating in gishwhes, basically I was living and breathing everything SPN related. I told every person alive that they should be watching it, and I worked it into nearly every single conversation. The show gets into your soul. I mean, it has you saying things like: I really love Lucifer, and Death is so funny. You guys know what I mean, right?

So how important is the SPN Family?

Just to give you an idea. If you are on Facebook, just search SPN support groups. There are a lot of them. This show brings together groups of people who band together to support one another through tough times. I am in one of these support groups. We have over 1,600 members. That is a lot of people with one singular thing bringing them together talking about their most intimate issues to virtual strangers with out shame. And these strangers are offering their unconditional support. It’s truly an amazing thing. People in these groups have offered their love, help, and support to complete strangers out of the kindness of their hearts just because they are fellow humans in need and “just a tv show” brought them together.

Misha Collins created Random Acts, a charity dedicated to random acts of kindness, for the sole purpose of encouraging people to be nice. And once a year all of these people brought together by “just a tv show” form groups to do nice things, have fun, and defy normalcy. Jared Padalecki created AKF or Always Keep Fighting to encourage people who are fighting any mental or physical illness to always keep fighting no matter what. Yes it might be “just a tv show” but it’s a tv show that has joined millions of people world wide into a family that supports one another in their battles.

It’s a family because as this tv show has taught us family doesn’t end in blood.

My Five Favourite SPN FanVids

It’s no secret that I love the TV Show that is CW’s Supernatural, it’s not secret at all. And sometimes when I’m feeling a little bit ‘meh’ or uninspired I turn to the fandom and their creations. More specifically Supernatural fan videos. The amount of effort and editing that goes into them, and the amazing content produced by it always inspires me to get off my butt, create something that makes people feel that amazing, that inspired. Which is why I’m writing this now, to help inspire you, and also maybe show you how incredible these creations really are.

REVIEW: Supernatural EPISODE 200 – “Fan Fiction”

I’m going to try and get through this review without laughing, crying or sleeping. And only one of those reactions isn’t a direct response from the episode…that’s right the sleeping part.

Anywho, moving on.

Season: 10
Episode: 5
Air Date (US): 11/11/14
Directed By: Phil Sgriccia
Written By: Robbie Thompson (who is my all time fav)

All facts above are according to the Supernatural Season 10 wikipedia page.

First off I’d like to start this review by saying that I have been a loyal fan of this show since…well since it aired in the UK. I remember thinking after a few episodes of season 1 that I wasn’t going to watch it because it was scary (literally laughing at myself right now), but when my mum and dad bought me the season 1 box set for Christmas, I’m pretty sure I watched all of them in one sitting. I LOVED IT. And I still do. So this review may be biased…but I’ll try my best.

We start off the episode with some students acting out a part of a play called ‘Supernatural’, and then their teacher says she is going to cut the show and speak to the principle to cancel it. She then walks out, only to get wrapped up by a twig and then disappear (DISCLAIMER: *not an actual twig*). Then it flashes to the title card which is the light bulbs, and the girl saying it needs something more, and then ALL the title cards they’ve ever had flash in front of the screen and this big proud smile just appeared on my face when that happened. I’m sure it did with any fan, no matter how long you’ve been watching it, one year or almost the full ten, you’ll know those title cards like the back of your own hands. And I bet you could name all the episodes they were in too. It was just a true testament to the show by doing that and I had a little fan-girl squeal.

The episode goes on, and in a non-spoilerish way as much as I can possibly do, to me the episode felt like the boys coming to terms with the fandom. Our fandom. Us. They accepted our quirks, our ships, our different stories and versions of the show, and they did it really tastefully too. We could all laugh and smile at the things that were being said/done (especially the first song shown, I was laughing so much), and it was just really…kinda nice. I want to say beautiful, but I feel like that might be too weird. It was like the fandom as a whole were being truly acknowledged in the show, not outside it – as we all know the actors, writers and producers really get themselves involved with the fans and find out what they like/dislike about the show – and they did it in a way where you felt the fans were truly appreciated.

When the Winchester’s catch the monster, and kill it, how they kill it and how it dies is hilarious, and when the audience have their reaction I was just laughing so much. It was just such a comedic moment to lighten the mood.

THE ENDING THOUGH. THAT ENDING. NO SPOILERS BECAUSE THAT ENDING. (tweet me here when you’ve watched it because you’ll know what I mean by THAT ENDING).

I haven’t summarized my views very well here, but if I had to give it 5/5 stars? I’d give it 10/5 stars. It was seriously the 101 on how to give back to the fans, which is what a lot of the actors were saying they wanted to do. It was a really good tribute to the fandom as a whole, as well as the last 10 years and looking at the brother’s relationship. And I love that Dean kept a piece of the Samulet the fans made and hung it in the Impala, it was just really symbolic and I just about cried.

To end this really rubbish review, because I’ve tittered on about my all time favourite show, I want to leave you with a snippet of my favourite scene that made me blub my eyes out so much I’m not even ashamed.

And I also want to say, thank you Supernatural and SPNFamily, for 10 glorious years, 200 episodes, and 10 seasons. Here’s to many more!!

Until next time, catch ya later SPNFamily x.

A Weekend to Remember: Asylum 13 (Part Three: Pranks, Post Con Blues, and After After Party).

Final Day – Sunday and after after party

It’s bad that I don’t actually remember getting up on the Sunday…-racks brain-…oh yes, we were late. Both Sam and I were pretty exhausted after the Karaoke on Saturday night. We set our alarms for 6 am like the other days, the only problem was, we kept hitting snooze. Whoops.

The hall opened late, it was supposed to open at 8:30am, but I’m pretty sure I remember it opening at like 9am. And luckily we managed to get the exact same seats as the previous day. GOOD SEATS. Although we felt a LOT closer to the stage than before, which I’m sure we were.

I’d like to take a moment to appreciate the tech guys, their humour was on point this weekend. I’m pretty sure this happened after the announcements were made and the famous Flash was left to entertain us whilst we waited.

Asylum 13 tech humourasylum 13 tech humour 2

It had the entire hall laughing. So thanks for that tech team.

The first panel of the day was Richard and Matt:

asylum 13 Matt and RIch 2 Asylum 13 Rich and Matt

asylum 3 rich matt impression 2 asylum 3 rich matt impression 3 asylum 3 rich matt impression 4 asylum 3 rich matt impression

Richard did his Matt impression again, this time with Matt in the room, and Matt just stood there and laughed at his friend, we of course, all joined in.

After that panel it was the panel of kick ass girls – Amy, Lindsey and Nicki. I didn’t get ANY photos from this panel and I’m almost ashamed of myself because of this. At one point someone got a hug from Nicki and then somehow the whole panel turned into this huge hug fest. People from the audience came down to the stage and everybody just hugged it out with Amy, Lindsey and Nicki. I stayed sat firmly in my seat because I didn’t wanna go up looking like death rolled over with my cold, or passing it over to other people.

There was a small break next, before Richard had his other panel by himself. In the previous panel of his, I forgot to mention that something happened in the audience that made everyone laugh, and apparently some prank had happened but not everyone could see it. This time though, during Richard’s panel, the photography girl arrived, duct taped to a chair, carried by two other people and placed in the middle of the stage.

Asylum 3 Richard and hostage

I don’t have any other photos, but Richard kept feeding her sweets, and banana’s as he answered questions, eventually another banana was thrown on stage and the hostage was told she could leave if she was able to eat it by herself. (remember her hands were taped together and she couldn’t lift them because of this). We all watched with anticipation until she did it, the audience cheered and she was allowed to be set free into the world.

And the drama didn’t stop there, next Timothy gatecrashed Richard’s panel and sat in the audience, eventually he came up on stage.

They exchanged the usual banter, and Tim looked down at the chair with sweets, banana skins, and duct tape, pointed at it and looked at everyone weirdly before proclaiming that what Richard does in his panels is up to him, but basically that crap is weird.

It was probably one of the funniest panels there was.

During lunch there were some schedule changes, and opportunities to get some more photo ops after lunch break. My lovely friend Lauren asked if I wanted to come into her photo op and so I did. It was nice to get a big squishy Matt hug. So thank you Lauren!!

Mine, Lauren's and Matt's photo op

Bad photo of a photo but you get the idea

The other panels I spent mainly just listening to. It was nice just to sit and listen to the Q and A’s, and general talks.

Before I knew it, the closing ceremony arrived and my friends and I were quite tearful thanks to more emotional speeches, especially from Matt Cohen, Amy Gumenick, and Richard Speight Jr.

Asylum 3 closing ceremony

After the guests left they auctioned off a signed banner from all the guest stars, and that sold for over £300!!! That concluded the convention, some people left, the guest stars all got waved off by everyone apparently when they left the hotel, I unfortunately chose to go to my room and get ready for the evening’s activities.

After After Party

In the past the after after party has included copious amounts of alcohol and games of Card Against Humanity, it’s usually organized by the beautiful Evelyn.

After getting some food and going on the monorail FOR THE FIRST TIME(!!), the party had begun.

This time the After After Party had quite a few people. It consisted of two separate games of Cards Against Humanity, a smaller group and a larger group. And as we all sat playing and talking, we each looked at the star’s twitter accounts as they had a tweet spree of photos and status’ from the convention. Then one of my friends burst out laughing, I got a tweet from the lovely Sian, and then I realized Timothy had tweeted a photo.

In the bottom right of the screen is my face, just poking through the crowd. Lovely. And quite frankly, hilarious.

Then to top it all off Sophie’s tweet (yeah we have a lot of Sophie’s at the con), was retweeted by Richard and her phone froze from all the notifications.

Which again I laughed at, since that tweet it’s gotten over 1.1k favourites and Rob has replied saying how heartbroken he is :L After Cards Against Humanity, and after a few people left to go sleep, we sort of just chilled and I drew a fabby picture of Richard Speight Jr.

Asylum 3 My picture of Richard

Don’t judge me it’s amazing (plus this was at like 1am).

After a quiet sit down we all decided to go to bed, and once again I vlogged from the Hilton sheets.

Monday

The day after the con is always depressing. Post Con Blues hit us and we were feeling a little low, but at the same time high too, we’d all had an amazing time and it’s these kind of memories that will never leave us, they’ll stay with us for a lifetime.

Thanks to everyone newbies and veteran’s, for making the experience amazing. You’re all awesome and I can’t wait to see most of you at Asylum 14!!

Until next time, catch ya later Bromigo’s x.

Asylum 13 Part Two: Mr Fizzles, Karaoke and Emotions.

Saturday Shenanigans

We woke up at around 6am, I had a shower, we got ready, then we went down for breakfast for 7am. Can I just say the Hilton Hotel breakfasts are always amazing!! Seriously, it’s like walking into the WIlly Wonka Land but not for Chocolate, for Breakfasts.

Breakfast at Hilton

This is just the cereal side, the cereal itself COME OUT OF TAPS. WHAT EVEN!? The hot food side is JUST as incredible!! I really recommend staying at the Hilton if you’re going to asylum 14, if not for anything else, stay for the food.

After breakfast we met up with our friend Pauline in the queue and managed to get a seat in the sixth row FROM THE FRONT. In all of my convention life I have never gotten a seat this good. It was like the first row AFTER reserved seating and upgrades seating. It was incredible, and so was the opening ceremony. I can’t remember exactly when Matt Cohen fell on to the stage, but I’m pretty sure he did it in the opening ceremony, and we all laughed, with him…not at him.

Opening Ceremony

It was Jim’s panel first, then it was Nicki’s, Theo and Adam’s and then it was Timothy Omundson’s.

Adam and theo 2 asylum 2 Adam and Theo asylum 2 Nicki singing panel asylum 2 Timothy Omundson 2 asylum 2 Timothy Omundson 3 asylum 2 Timothy Omundson 4 asylum 2 Timothy Omundson asylum 2

Nicki sang for us in her panel, I think I missed some of her panel (and Jim’s) because I had to get autographs, luckily for me they started with my group number so I could get them first thing and hassle free. Rogue were also really strict with the auto’s, you had to go when your group was called, not before and not after, and really I think this worked quickly and cleanly. But, apparently whilst I was gone, someone asked Nicki about her singing so she sang a song for us all, she has a really unique voice and I think she could go really far in the industry (without sounding like Simon Cowell too much). She also talked about her friend’s band, YoYa.

Adam and Theo’s panel was just hysterical, the pair could be a really good comedy duo so long as Adam has his bacon and Theo has his bookshop for his character Gavin (and maybe a few pigeons too). It was good to see how close the pair are, and it was literally like watching a friendship blossom right in front of you. Awww.

Theo was up next, he was the guest who surprised me most, not at all what I expected. He’s funny, really humble, and truly fascinating to listen to. He gave good answers, with added advice about how the industry works, which I loved! He also gave plenty of credit to Robbie Thompson for the character Omundson played and the development of his character too, which was ‘Cain’. It was refreshing to see some credit being given to the writers of the CW show.

After the morning panels it was lunch time. I’d gotten half of my auto’s and Sam had managed to get a few of her things too. We decided to head up to our room and grab a bite or two to eat.

When lunch was done we got back to our seats in the hall and got ready for Matt and Amy’s panel which I was really excited about, and then my group letter got called for my second lot of autographs and I wanted to cry. I had to leave and I missed their panel! But it was nice chatting to the other stars as they signed my autograph book, so that kind of made up for it.

Next up was DJ, I missed like a small part of his panel I believe, because of my auto’s, but when I got there he started to talk about these sweets. And it wasn’t until he was about to say they were really sour until I realized that they were the sweets #teamafterafterparty had at Asylum 10, the ones that burnt off the taste buds on my tongue. So he brought up two people from the audience, one to time 30 seconds, the other to put the sweet in their mouth for that amount of time, and see if they could last that long.

DJ and the sweets asylum 13

Much to mine, as well as DJ’s bemusement the volunteer was absolutely fine with the most sour sweet on the planet, she just shrugged and DJ told her to get off the stage, jokingly of course.

The next thing that happened really made my whole weekend, MR FIZZLES. Someone asked about him and DJ made one of the stewards/staff from asylum to grab his bag from the green room, to which they did, and DJ let the REAL Mr Fizzles get passed around the audience.

Me and the real Mr Fizzles asylum 2 Mr Fizzles asylum 2

Lets just say I was a little bit more than fan-girling. I particularly liked the label of ‘Supernatural Season 7’ that had been sown into the sock <3. It was just a shame that Mr Fizzles couldn’t make his trip around the whole audience whilst DJ had his panel.

Gil and Lyndsey’s panel after DJ’s was interesting and funny. I didn’t get as many notes from theirs, however it didn’t mean it was any less awesome.

Next up was Richard Speight Jr who didn’t disappoint. He was hilarious as per usual, a convention with him is always a good convention. Strap that, a convention with him and Matt Cohen is always a guaranteed good time. (Sebastian Roche is a good one too).

Nervous girl Richard asylum 2 Richard Matt impression asylum 2

He was hilarious with his Matt Cohen impression (pictured right), and fired away with the questions, coming up with witty and hilarious responses. TOP TIP to the newbies, DON’T SAY YOU’RE NERVOUS if you ask a question, because otherwise you’ll be the girl on the left, he’ll come up to you, and drag you on stage. It happened with previous guests too at Asylum 12, Mark Sheppard is a beast for doing it.

The panels finished at around 17:00, and then the group photo’s were being done so nothing was really on. Sam and I decided we weren’t going to pay for room service (as it’s £5 extra), and that we’d go down to the bar for some food.

Dinner Day Two

Chicken Ceasar wrap with some chip things. We had fries to share with these too.

After we ate, we got ready and met up with Lauren, Pauline and Holly for the Saturday night  party, which was KARAOKE!! My throat was pretty sore, I was losing my voice, but I still sang to my hearts content until all I could do was lipsing powerfully and artfully.

Karaoke asylum 2 Matt karaoke asylum 2

It was the BEST night of the entire weekend. Some of the people who had requested songs got to go up and sing on stage with the guests, and the audience sang along. WE WERE IN THE SECOND ROW of people and SO CLOSE to the COHEN. There were lots of selfies and video’s taken, it was so amazing and so asdfghjkl. NO WORDS.

HIGHLIGHT MOMENT: In the Karaoke during the last song (I think it was the last song, correct me if I’m wrong) ‘Fix You’ by Coldplay was playing, and during the instrumental part Matt Cohen jumped down from the stage into the audience and started saying how amazing we all are, and how we’re a big family and how amazing the conventions are and…I’m welling up just thinking about it. Many of my friends cried, and it was such a beautiful moment that I’m definitely going to treasure forever.

After the Karaoke the party continued, I stayed out later than Friday, despite having no voice, and when we finally got into bed my ears were ringing from the music, but it was definitely worth it.

So that was the Saturday. It was an amazing day and we were left on such a high. Sunday will be posted tomorrow, until next time, I’ll catch ya later Bromigo’s x.
